About the film

Chile in the Heart is a documentary film on the 1973 military coup that overthrew the elected government of Salvador Allende in Chile, set to the poetry of Pablo Neruda.

During the film, which features dramatic footage of the turbulent 1970s Allende era in Chile, the legendary poet Allen Ginsberg reads Neruda’s poem Incitement to Nixonicide and In Praise of the Chilean Revolution. Directed by Allen Francovich and Produced by Howard Dratch and Francovich, the film’s dramatic images are accompanied by the powerful music of Victor Jara. Released by Isla Negra Films in 1978.
